Fort Collins is known for its active lifestyle and adventure, don’t let this pandemic alter that! There are more safe and healthy ways to get your child active than you could imagine. We cannot afford to let this pandemic ruin the active nature of Fort Collins, and more importantly, the youth! These are the top five ways to keep your child active during these times.

1.Youth Basketball

Fort Collins has an amalgamation of different leagues for youth basketball, making it one of the more popular youth sports in Fort Collins. What makes youth basketball perfect is the team size is on the smaller side for team sports. As well as it has somewhat less contact than a lot of other sports. With so many leagues to choose from, it may get overwhelming, so here are the ones I found to be most popular: I9 Sports , Rocky Mountain Youth Sports , and SkyHawks. These basketball leagues have even posted their own information on how they will combat covid-19 to make sure your child is safe, yet having a blast.

Current high school basketball player, Isaiah Velazquez on youth basketball: “Youth Basketball was my favorite part of the day growing up. I loved my first coach, he taught me the basics of everything I know about basketball today. To this day playing basketball as a kid has impacted me and made me a better player, and teammate.”

2. Indoor Rock Climbing

Indoor rock climbing is the perfect sport to always challenge yourself and see yourself grow into a better athlete. This is perfect during the pandemic for it is not a contact sport, as well as the individuality aspect. Fort Collins is also home to a lot of different locations to choose from, to help best fit your financial situation. Some of the best locations to choose from are Ascent Studio, Genesis Health Club, and Whetstone Climbing. Whetstone is my number one pick out of the bunch, for they have new deals and saving all the time. That paired with the ever changing climbing routes makes this the spot to be.

Did you know? Around 25 million people climb regularly every single year!

3. Volleyball

Volleyball has always been an underrated sport that just doesn’t seem to get as much love by the younger public. But if you have your child give it a shot, they may just change their views on the sport forever. Volleyball is the perfect team sport to engage in during the pandemic. Players are rarely standing right next to one another, and almost never touch one another. This greatly helps to reduce the amount of risk we can put each other at. On top of that Volleyball also helps to develop trust and communication in yourself and others. The most popular programs in Fort Collins are Edge Sports Center and I9 Sports.

Did you know? Volleyball is the second most popular sport in the world, only coming in behind soccer.

4. Soccer Indoor/Outdoor

Soccer is one of the favorites among the younger crowed. It allows for your child to run free while building team skills. Soccer is great for making sure your child is staying on top of their cardio, while having a great time. Like volleyball, soccer is a team sport, but you very rarely are coming into very close contact with one another. This makes it the perfect for the world we are living in today! Another great advantage to playing soccer is the flexibility of positions. If your child is not too much of a long-pace runner, they can give goalie a try! There is something for everyone in soccer. If you are looking register your child, consider trying out these top clubs in Fort Collins: Rapids Youth Soccer, Arsenal, and Mighty Kicks.

Did you know? Nobody knows when soccer was actually created, but early versions of the sport date back as long as 3000 years ago!

5. Track and Field

What kid doesn’t want to be the fastest on the playground? None of them! That is exactly why you should give your child a shot in track and field. One of the most underappreciated sports in the entire sporting world. I don’t think there is a better nor safer sport for your child to play right now. Weather it is sprinting, or relay races, your child will be at very low risk due to the individuality aspect of track. Most of the events done with track are solo, but that doesn’t mean there are not team races. But every team activity is minimal to no contact. Track and field will help your child build up endurance while improving their cardio. The best part about track and field though, is simply seeing yourself get better. Race to Sky Hawks Track and Field to get your child registered today!

Did you know? The first Olympic race was held in Greece in 776 BC.

We cannot let this pandemic win. Our youth is our future, and we need a healthy future so we can continue to grow. Get your kids involved in the sporting world. Don’t let the pandemic force your child to be a couch potato, let them flourish in sports, so you all can see their best self.
